How to make a wallpaper you actually own
The colours and pattern you pick are drawn as shapes on a browser canvas. Nothing is borrowed from a photo library or from someone else's artwork, so wherever you put the result, nobody has a claim on it.
What this tool does
It is a place to make wallpapers, not a place to browse them. Instead of picking one out of a gallery, you combine ten palettes, eight patterns, and a layout number, and the picture is drawn on the spot.
Because of that, picking the same combination again gives you the same picture. Note down the layout number of one you liked and you can rebuild it later.
What you get is a PNG file. Put it on your phone, use it as a slide background, a Notion cover, or a stream backdrop. Wherever it ends up, there is nobody to ask.
The order of things
Start with what the picture is for. Pick phone portrait, lock screen, desktop, or profile square, or type in your own width and height.
Then pick colours and a pattern. The preview redraws as soon as you tap, so it is worth clicking through a few before settling.
Add words if you want them, or leave the field empty. Finally press download and the PNG is saved at the size you picked.
The rules this app follows
There are five size presets. Phone portrait is 1080 by 1920, lock screen is 1179 by 2556, desktop is 1920 by 1080, wide desktop is 2560 by 1440, and profile square is 1080 by 1080. Your own numbers are accepted between 320 and 4096, and anything outside that is pulled back into range.
There are eight patterns: solid, gradient, grid, dots, waves, diagonal stripes, nested arcs, and colour blocks. All of them are made from rectangles, circles, and lines. No photograph or pasted graphic is used anywhere.
The layout number decides the details of a pattern. How many grid cells, how big and how strong the dots are, how many wave bands, how thick the stripes, how many rings of arcs, all come from that number. The same number gives the same picture on any device, any day.
Paper grain scatters a very faint speckle over the picture, and that too is drawn rather than pasted, as 1400 tiny rectangles. Flipping light and dark reverses the order of the five palette colours, which turns a dark ground into a light one.
Text is drawn up to four lines. A fifth line is not drawn. Text size runs from 3 to 14 percent of the shorter edge, and it sits at the top, the middle, or the bottom. The text colour comes from the five colours of the palette you picked.
The file name carries the palette, the pattern, and the size, so that a folder full of them still tells you which is which.
Which size to pick
For a phone background, phone portrait is usually right. Phone screens have grown taller, so a 16 by 9 picture gets cropped top and bottom, and the lock screen preset matches that taller ratio.
For slides or a video call background, pick desktop. If it will be shown on a large screen, wide desktop holds up better.
For a profile picture slot, pick square. Different services crop it differently, so if you are adding words, the middle is the safe place for them.
Typefaces and copyright
Only typefaces that may be used commercially and redistributed are included. The four here are Gowun Dodum, Nanum Myeongjo, Space Grotesk, and Playfair Display, and all four are under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
We did not take that on trust. For each one we fetched the licence text and the repository's own licence field from the Google Fonts repository and compared them, on 5 September 2026. The source link and that date sit under the typeface picker, so you can open them yourself.
Anything we could not verify was left out. A handsome typeface is no use if the pictures made with it become a problem later.
The patterns and colours contain nobody else's artwork. There are no characters, no stock photos, no fan art, and no palette is named after a show or a group. The colour names are ordinary words like dawn, moss, and sand.
When it goes wrong
If pressing download does nothing, the browser is usually blocking the save. Try another browser or check the download permission.
If the letters come out as boxes, the typeface does not have those characters. For Hangul, pick Gowun Dodum or Nanum Myeongjo. Space Grotesk and Playfair Display are Latin typefaces.
Very large custom sizes can strain the device, because everything is drawn inside the browser. Values above 4096 are not accepted.
If you liked one and cannot find it again, look at the layout number. The same palette, pattern, and layout number give the same picture.
